Tuesday Tunes – Theme from “Somewhere in Time”

Sometimes when you start exploring YouTube, you stumble across the most beautiful things – this song has special meaning for me, because “Somewhere in Time” was the first movie that Paul and I saw as a newly-married couple.

Our anniversary is later this week, so I thought this would make a nice trip down memory lane:

.

The gentleman playing this gorgeous arrangement of the theme from one of my all-time favorite movies is a young man from Croatia named Maxsim Mrvica. I had never heard of him before I saw this video, but I’m now a huge fan…

Sunday Funnies: Is it plugged in? Try plugging it in…..

The following post originally appeared in August, 2011:

Many of you may remember my previous adventures in 21st-century technology.  Well, true to form, I’m continuing my downward spiral on what is looking to be a one-way ticket to the loony bin.

You see, we have a wedding anniversary coming up, and since I wasn’t blogging last year when our 30th came around, I thought I’d do something special for this one.  I wanted to incorporate some music into the mix, so a blog post wasn’t going to be quite enough.

Happy Birthday, Michelle!

.

It’s so hard to believe that it’s been 23 years since we welcomed our second daughter into the world. Where has the time gone? Our little girl has grown into a beautiful young woman, but it seems like just yesterday we were welcoming her into the world.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Not my real parents – they don’t want their faces shown, so I got to pick a random picture of any old couple (That’ll teach ’em…..)

On this day 55 years ago, my Mom and Dad tied the knot.
I’m glad they did, ‘cuz otherwise, I wouldn’t be here….

In honor of this occasion, I’d like to dedicate one of my favorite songs to these two crazy kids – “After All These Years” by Journey:
.

Happy Anniversary, you two – I’m so glad you are my parents ♥♥♥

Tuesday Tunes: Dog Days of Summer

Dude – my beautiful wickedness is melting…..

Well, it’s gonna be another scorcher today, folks – then again, it’s August in Texas.  What’s a delicate little flower (that’d be ME, you guys….) supposed to do?

Ah, well – here’s some summertime music to soothe the savage breast. I’ve been staying indoors with the A/C turned down and the ceiling fans turned up….

Let’s start out “Old School” with a catchy little classic from Nat King Cole:

It’s a Bouncing Baby….

Watermelon 3 - 43 lbs - 08.09.2014 - Cropped

“Big Bertha” – August 9, 2014; Length – 27.25 inches; Circumference – 32.25 inches; Weight- 43 lbs.

Watermelon!

Back when Paul bought her, she was nothing more than a tiny little seedling. He cleared out the compost bin, planted it on one side, and then just kept watering for weeks and weeks and weeks (well, actually, Rebecca’s attendant, Miss Teresa, did most of the watering – she apparently likes to do that!).

Foodie Friday – No-Bake Cookies

No-Bake Cookies 4.
Here’s a recipe that is perfect for those hot summer days when you don’t want to turn on the oven unless you absolutely have to.  It’s also a naturally gluten-free cookie, which means I don’t have to worry about whether my GF flour will work straight out of the container without any modifications.

My mom used to make these when I was a kid.  I always loved them, but the hardest part was waiting for them to set up; living in humid Houston, some days they never did set “right”.  I didn’t care, though – they were good whether they were firm or not!

A Fateful Monday Morning

Statement by the President, August 6, 1945

THE WHITE HOUSE
Washington, D.C.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE — August 6, 1945

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Sixteen hours ago an American airplane dropped one bomb on Hiroshima, an important Japanese Army base. That bomb had more power than 20,000 tons of T.N.T. It had more than two thousand times the blast power of the British “Grand Slam” which is the largest bomb ever yet used in the history of warfare.

The Japanese began the war from the air at Pearl Harbor. They have been repaid many fold. And the end is not yet. With this bomb we have now added a new and revolutionary increase in destruction to supplement the growing power of our armed forces. In their present form these bombs are now in production and even more powerful forms are in development.

It is an atomic bomb. It is a harnessing of the basic power of the universe. The force from which the sun draws its power has been loosed against those who brought war to the Far East.

Tuesday Tunes – “Short Change Hero”

.
A couple of years ago, we started watching a show/series on Cinemax called “Strike Back” – it very quickly became one of our guilty pleasures.

There’s plenty of nice eye candy for Paul and me (some of it is definitely for “mature” audiences, though, IYKWIMAITTYD)

There’s lots of guns, too.

Sunday Funnies – Mushroom (Cloud)s

For obvious reasons, today’s funnies are decidedly atomic in nature:

What did the nuclear physicist have for lunch?
Fission chips.

***************************************************

What happens when electrons lose their energy?
They get Bohr’ed.

***************************************************

A hydrogen atom is walking down the street with a friend when he suddenly stops.

The friend says, “What’s wrong?”
The hydrogen atom replies, “I lost my electron!”

The friend says, “Are you sure?”
The hydrogen atom exclaims, “Yes, I’m positive.”

The friend says, “Oh, I thought you were just being negative again.”

***************************************************

A nuclear plant, a windmill and a solar panel are at a party, and the nuclear plant is getting all the attention from the hottest girls. Jealous, the windmill and solar panel ask the nuclear plant what his secret is.

the nuclear power plant says to the windmill, “Well, you’re just spinning your wheels in place and blowing a lot of air getting nowhere.”

Then he turns to the solar panel and tells him, “You just suck up all the light and your character is very flat.”

“I, on the other hand am the bad boy every hottie loves: I’m dangerous, I’m toxic to the core, I’m hard to handle, and my charm is radioactive.”

***************************************************

What do you call a group of nuclear engineers doing sit-ups and crunches?
The core development team.

***************************************************

Several years ago, a friend of mine made a comment at a blog that still makes me giggle –

God's the One who whispered in Oppenheimer's ear: "Dude, carry the one."
God’s the One who whispered in Oppenheimer’s ear: “Dude, carry the one.”

.
Then there’s this one – a little NSFW, but it’s funny, I don’t care who you are…
