A Somber Remembrance: Thoughts on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

I suppose every generation has its share of “Where were you when….?” moments – those “somethings” that happen that are so big, so life-altering, and which affect so many people that the vast majority of them have a memory etched into their mind of where they were when they heard the news, how they felt when they heard the news, and how it changed their life forever.

I can still remember that morning – it started off like any other morning.  Rachel had gotten up early and was already dressed and on her way to high school with her friends, Michelle and Sarah were getting ready for school, and Paul was getting ready for work.  I was resting in bed, waiting for Rebecca – who had turned 2 months old the day before – to wake up for her morning bottle.

Paul came into the bedroom and said he had just heard on the radio that a plane had hit the World Trade Center and it was on fire.

Happy Birthday, Sarah!

.

Nineteen years ago today, a spirited whirlwind of a girl blew into our lives:

Watch out, world - this one is loaded for bear.....

I had planned on doing a nice, long post with lots of pictures, but I’ve been kind of busy this past week. You see, tomorrow Sarah will be leaving for New York to start the newest phase of her life as she embarks on her college career.

To Have and To Hold….

Thirty-one years ago today, two starry-eyed kids said “I do”….

To my wonderful husband, Paul – thank you for all of the special memories, and for making me so incredibly happy.

A Musical Interlude for the Dog Days of Summer

Dude – my beautiful wickedness is melting…..

Honestly, I can’t remember a summer this hot in Texas. I mean, we were here in 1980 – that brutal summer of 2 solid months of 100+ degree temperatures – but these past few weeks have been ridiculously scorching. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a weather report where every temperature for the week was expected to be AT LEAST 104 degrees – and we’ve had at least 2 weeks of forecasts like that, with another one planned for this week.

It Was Twenty Years Ago Today…..

It’s so hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since we welcomed our second daughter into the world. Where has the time gone? Our little girl has grown into a beautiful young woman, but it seems like just yesterday we were welcoming her into the world.

Is it plugged in? Try plugging it in…..

Many of you may remember my previous adventures in 21st-century technology.  Well, true to form, I’m continuing my downward spiral on what is looking to be a one-way ticket to the loony bin.

You see, we have a wedding anniversary coming up, and since I wasn’t blogging last year when our 30th came around, I thought I’d do something special for this one.  I wanted to incorporate some music into the mix, so a blog post wasn’t going to be quite enough.

A Day of Unimaginable Sorrow

There are no words.  A truly terrible, horrible day:

A NATO helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Saturday killing 31 U.S. special-forces troops, including more than 20 Navy SEALS from the unit that killed Osama bin Laden, and 7 Afghan commandos.

If I’m Going to Be Called a “Terrorist”….

.

.

All kidding aside, I’ve actually seen a couple of videos that I am NEVER going to be able to scrub from my brain that show what real terrorists do to those who do not share their philosophies.

People in other parts of the world live with REAL terrorism every single day of their life, mainly because they do not live in a country where the rule of law exists to protect them from an over-reaching government that is only out for what it can extract from its citizenry.

I saw this yesterday in the comments section at another blog.  I don’t know where the commenter got the original.  I took the liberty of adding some pictures – I hope you enjoy it!
