Psssst…..We hit the Debt Ceiling on May 16th.

.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting sick and tired of this president waiting until the last minute to take care of problems that are entirely of his own making. Now, I don’t know if this method of governing is the result of this man never having been held to account for his irresponsible actions in his personal and/or professional life, or if it is by design.

My guess is it is a little bit of both.

However, as the old saying goes, “Failure to plan on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on my part.”

Why Does This Thing Keep Blinking “12:00”?

If any of my children were stand-up comics, I would be giving them plenty of material to use in their act.

I used to laugh at all of those comedians who told stories about their parents and grandparents not being able to work a VCR or figure out how to use an answering machine.

Anyone looking for a part-time job in Austin?

.

.
Wendi Aarons has a job opportunity for someone with a strong constitution:

…The Movie Chaperone will be responsible for meeting Mrs. Aarons and her two (2) children at the theater. He/she will then wait in line for popcorn while simultaneously pulling the two (2) children away from the “Postal Assassin” video game in the lobby and explaining to them why they’re not allowed to buy hot dogs cooked by a pimply concession stand worker. The individual is then expected to escort the two (2) children into the appropriate theater and find three seats that are a) not too close to the screen or b) behind a large man whose size prompts the children to scream that they “totally can’t see because of this stupidhead’s big stupid head” and kick his seat until he threatens to call an usher and have them ejected….

(h/t to Wendi Aarons – This blogger always makes me laugh – it’s nice to know I’m not the only one whose kids are…well, kids!)

Pulling Back the Curtain (or: A politician accidentally tells the truth)

Yesterday, I heard something that I have never – NEVER – heard an American politician admit on national TV: that the American government has been lying to her people for the past 75+ years.  See if you can pick it out:

A Whole Lotta Lovin’ Went Into This Birthday Cake….

Yesterday was Rebecca’s birthday, and I realized that 3 previous generations – and one baking legend – helped make her birthday cake special.

When Rebecca was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I was sure that baking from that point on was going to be a real pain.  But in the past year, Betty Crocker started making Gluten-Free mixes.  Fortunately for Rebecca, we had a box of cake mix in our pantry:

Thank you, Betty Crocker!

A Very Special Birthday for a Very Special Little Girl

On this day 10 years ago, we were given a very special gift:
.

.

On July 10, 2001, we welcomed Rebecca Claire into the world.  She was absolutely perfect – another beautiful daughter.  A few hours after her birth, our pediatrician gently informed us that Rebecca had been born with Down syndrome.  The next 48 hours were a real emotional roller coaster.  We cried, we asked ourselves, “Why?”, and we prayed.  A lot.

Happy Independence Day to the World’s Newest Free Nation!

.

Sometimes, you really CAN learn new and interesting things late at night. Last night on one of the blogs that I frequent, a commenter who has been following the situation in South Sudan couldn’t hold in his excitement and elation at the prospect of a new, independent nation finally – after decades of terrible fighting – becoming a reality. It seems this commenter knows one of the freedom fighters personally, and holds him in very high regard. He feels that this soft-spoken person who cherishes the idea of religious freedom and national sovereignty could one day be instrumental in the new country’s government.

Oh, the Huge Manatee!

My kids got ALL of their artistic talent from Paul’s side of the family – I can barely draw a stick figure.

Michelle loves to do a technique called “Pointillism”, and she is very, very good at it.  She recently did this drawing of a manatee for a friend, and I wanted to share it with all of you (and yes, I’m bragging!):

Not bad for an Aggie, huh? 🙂
