The Official Start of Summer

.

.
Memorial Day Weekend – the “official” start to the Summer season. We have the annual running of the Indy 500, the men fire up their grills, and the ladies can start wearing white shoes!

I ran across this video and had to share it with you (the music doesn’t start until 0:21 – sorry):

Have a great weekend, everybody!

The Day That All Moms Dread…..

Well, I knew this day had to come – it comes around every year. The day that all kids look forward to. and all mothers dread.

That’s right, folks – the Last Day of School is here…..
.

.
Oh, well – September will be here before you know it…..

Well, THAT’S a Relief….

.

.
One of the hallmarks of Myasthenia Gravis is muscle fatiguability. After living post-diagnosis with this condition for over 2 years, I’ve come to accept that I’m going to have good days and bad days, and there is never any rhyme or reason as to how I’m going to feel on any given day.

This morning, I woke up and could tell that it wasn’t going to be a “great” day, but the early part of the day is usually much better than the end of the day (par for the course with MG).

I went downstairs, got a Coke out of the refrigerator (my caffeine “equivalent” of coffee), sat down, and started to twist the top off of the bottle – but I couldn’t get it to budge.

Why I Love SpongeBob SquarePants So Much

One of the great things about having kids is that you get to watch cartoons without anyone thinking you are weird. One of our family’s favorites the past few years (it first aired in 1999) has been SpongeBob SquarePants. He’s such a sweet nerdy character, and the writing on the show is very clever.

I used to think that I was a truly odd duck – thanks to the Internet, I have discovered that there are a WHOLE lot of people out there who share my nerdy, offbeat humor. It’s been great! The best part is that I am able to surf the net and find lots of quirky stuff that I never would have known about otherwise.

I recently ran across a wonderful blog written by a delightful young lady named Vi Hart. She makes math FUN (my Aunt Gloria – a high school Calculus teacher who saw “math” everywhere she went – would have loved her). I had a great time looking through her YouTube videos, but these are extra special:

A Hilarious Harry Potter Spoof (That I Can’t Believe I Missed) –

.

.
In 2003, the BBC’s “French and Saunders” did this laugh-out-loud spoof on the second Harry Potter film for the UK’s version of Comic Relief:

2003’s UK fundraiser performed a spoof story entitled “Harry Potter and the Secret Chamberpot of Azerbaijan” that featured Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Miranda Richardson, Jeremy Irons, Alison Steadman and Ronnie Corbett, with the sketch being preceded by a message from JK Rowling. French and Richardson would later star in several of the real Harry Potter films. With so much star power, this spoof didn’t see a whole lot of attention outside of the UK, but that’s not to say it’s not worth searching out.

Here is “Harry Potter and the Secret Chamberpot of Azerbaijan“:
(My apologies – the best-quality videos were broken up into 4 parts, and all of them have the Comic Relief “whine and beg” line running through them at some point)

The Music of Magic City – “Drowning on Dry Land”

I gotta tell you, I am absolutely LOVING the music that they are playing on this series!

This one played at the end of Episode #106 – “The Harder They Fall“.
Here is “Drowning on Dry Land”, performed by Albert King.

.
Isn’t that the coolest?
Have a great day!

“Be Still My Soul”

Honestly, one of the most beautiful arrangements of this beloved hymn:

.
Performed by the BYU Concert Choir, from their CD “All Creatures of Our God and King” from Tantara Records, directed by Mack Wilberg.***

This one is on my “Songs I Want Played at my Funeral” playlist…

We Have Already Established WHAT You Are….

Sometimes, a picture really IS worth a thousand words:
.
.
It’s an oldie but a goodie: ***

Churchill: Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?
Socialite: My goodness, Mr. Churchill… Well, I suppose… we would have to discuss terms, of course…
Churchill: Would you sleep with me for five pounds?
Socialite: Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!
Churchill: Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.

***(This is a very old joke where the participants vary dramatically from each telling. It’s very unlikely – though not impossible – that the joke originated from Churchill.)

I Love You, Mom

I got brave this year, and made a photo book online for my Mom (she should already have the hard copy in her hot little hands….)

(Click on the picture to take you to the Shutterfly site, where you can view it for yourself.
Once there, click on “View Photo Book”, then “View Full Screen” – hope you enjoy it!
)

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!
I love you very much ♥♥♥

Mr. Obama Supports Gay Marriage. Big Whoop.

“After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting.
It is not logical, but it is often true
.”

Bonus geek points if you recognize the obscure reference….

The current President of the United States came out in favor of gay marriage yesterday.

In the immortal words of the late Andrew Breitbart, “So?”

Seriously, Mr. Obama – so?
