Free Healthcare for Everyone! (While supplies last…..)

So one of our daughters called me up today and told me that she needs to get a vaccine for college.  It seems that as of January 1 of this year, the “rules” have changed – again – and the vaccine that she had in April, 2006 is out of date (the new rules state that she has to have had the vaccine within the last 5 years).

The universities don’t take parents’ insurance, but it wouldn’t matter anyway, because the student health centers don’t carry the vaccine in the first place.  A student CAN get the vaccine at a local pharmacy, but it costs over $100 to purchase it at any of them.

Dear Iowa Republican Caucus-goers….

Didn’t think twice about protecting the life of this little guy when a predator was threatening him:

Is there anyone else on the GOP ticket who would do the same?

Character matters.
Choose wisely, Iowa.  Choose wisely.

Handing over the Reins

November 15, 2011

To all of the families and friends of the Down Syndrome Partnership of Tarrant County:

Effective immediately, ******** will be taking over the position of New Parent Packet Coordinator; while it may come as a surprise to most of you, she and I have been discussing this for several months now.

It has been my greatest honor to have been entrusted with this “job” for the past 8 years, but as with all things, the time has come to pass the responsibilities to someone new.  While I will miss being one of the first people that a family contacts when their child gets a DS diagnosis, I know that future families will be in good hands in *****’s capable care.

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks…..

Our longtime friend Jack is always sending along helpful tips to us “youngsters” (he recently turned 75).  Since Paul just purchased a new Glock, Jack found this helpful video and sent it to us in an e-mail with the following message:

What an informative training film. Should be distributed to our military and all Law Enforcement agencies. Certainly kept my attention. I watched this 4 times and now I’m ready to buy a Glock!!!

.
Thanks for that, Jack – Paul has promised to watch this video over and over and over, until he gets it right…..  😛

The Lovely 10%: The happiest members of a movement you won’t hear about on the news

One of the lucky ones.... (Click on picture for more information)

As many of you know, our youngest daughter, Rebecca, was born with Down syndrome.  When we found out that we were (surprise!) expecting a fourth child, we made a conscious  decision NOT to have certain prenatal tests done.  I will freely admit that I am not nearly as noble as I would like to think that I am; I didn’t want to even entertain the idea of someone asking me if I wanted to make a “choice”.

Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween – it’s the only night of the year when you are allowed to wear a costume without being in a play:

I'll be rocking this "Maleficent" costume tonight...
