The Syrian Situation: Alerts To Threats in Europe

Europe Map 2.

In regard to recent events in Syria:

The English are feeling the pinch and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

“Claire de Lune”

Claire de Lune 2.

If you ever have a stressful day, this tune is a wonderful tonic…

This is a lovely arrangement of Claude Debussy’s hauntingly beautiful “Claire de Lune” performed on a 10-string guitar – I heard a version of this on the “Falling Skies” episode titled “Young Bloods”. I don’t know if this is the one that was used in the show***, but it’s close enough.

I have only ever heard this done as a piano solo or in a symphonic setting, so this was quite a treat:

A Musical Interlude for the Dog Days of Summer

Dude – my beautiful wickedness is melting…..

Well, it’s gonna be another scorcher today, folks – the high is supposed to hit 104 degrees, and tomorrow’s high is expected to reach 103.  What’s a delicate little flower (that’d be ME, you guys….) supposed to do?

Ah, well – here’s some summertime music to soothe the savage breast. I’ve been staying indoors with the A/C turned down and the ceiling fans turned up….

Let’s start out “Old School” with a catchy little classic from Nat King Cole:

Watch Out World – She’s Officially “Legal” Today…..

.
Twenty-one years ago today, a spirited whirlwind of a girl blew into our lives:

Watch out, world – this one is loaded for bear…..

….and we have never been the same.  Where has all that time gone?

God has a wicked sense of humor – ask any family that has more than two kids, and they will tell you that the third kid threw them for a loop.  Just when you think you have the whole “parenting” thing figured out – you’re thinking you know everything there is to know about raising kids – the third one comes along, and you realize that you don’t have the first CLUE…..

By the time Sarah came along, we had been parents for 6 years.  Poor Sarah got the “leftovers” – we were a lot calmer about things, but we were also just plain tired.  Rachel was starting kindergarten and Michelle was only a year old, so Sarah got whatever energy we could muster up at the end of the day.

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…..

Back To School
.
This came out in 1996 – the first time I saw it, I almost fell off of the couch, I was laughing so hard.

All these years later, it still makes me giggle 😛

Still Crazy (In Love) After All These Years

Thirty-three years ago today, two starry-eyed kids said “I do”….

To my wonderful husband, Paul – thank you for all of the special memories, and for making me so incredibly happy.

Hallelujah, I Love Him So – Eva Cassidy

Vintage 15

.
Here’s a peppy little tune, just because (I couldn’t find a video of this that I liked, so I made my own):

.
.

That’s the incomparable Eva Cassidy – this tune is from her “American Tune” album; you can get it in either CD or MP3 formats (I’ve already got mine).

Have a great day!

After The Ball (My High School Reunion Tale Continues….)

After The Ball.
Well, it IS the Koch family, so you know that the “story” can’t end when the party does…

When the festivities from our reunion were over, we stuck around to help clean up (we finally got out of there about 1:00 in the morning). We were staying with my best friend Becky and her husband; her youngest son and his fiancée had come over with their little girl, Alexandra, to watch Rebecca while the old folks partied. They brought their new kitten, so Rebecca didn’t even know that we were gone 😛

Bright and early Sunday morning, Rebecca woke us up – she wanted to show us the kitten (of course). Alexandra woke up “Granny” and “Papa Dave” as well, so we all dragged our tired selves out of bed. Our muscles aren’t used to that much fun, so much groaning (and consuming of megadoses of painkillers) ensued.

“Who Invited All of These Old People?”

The Event.
Two weeks ago, I attended my 35th High School reunion – and lived to tell the tale…..

Paul, Rebecca, and I drove down Friday morning, and got to the Houston area just in time to help out with decorating the place where the reunion was going to be held (my best friend and her husband had volunteered to help, so we tagged along). It was nice to see a few of my old classmates and catch up on what they’d been up to in the time since we last saw each other.

Happy Birthday, Michelle!

.

It’s so hard to believe that it’s been 22 years since we welcomed our second daughter into the world. Where has the time gone? Our little girl has grown into a beautiful young woman, but it seems like just yesterday we were welcoming her into the world.
