Over the years, Paul and I have never really done anything “special” for our anniversary – we’d eat dinner out, maybe catch a movie, and we would usually exchange gifts. It’s hard to take time out as a couple when you are raising kids and money is tight.
A couple of years ago, we decided to take time for ourselves – the kids were practically grown, and we had a little more disposable income. We spent a weekend at a local hotel and saw some sights like we were tourists – it was a lot of fun!
We enjoyed that so much that we decided to do the same thing this year. Sarah kindly agreed to watch Rebecca for the weekend so that we can spend some time together as a couple. They plan on having a “Sisters Weekend” – they’re going to watch movies, eat lots of food, and keep the dogs from eating the cats.
(Michelle called on Thursday to let us know that she and Rheah will be in town for a few days, so I guess “Sisters Weekend” will have one more sister!)
We made reservations at a swank “boutique” hotel in the heart of downtown Fort Worth, complete with chocolate-covered strawberries, a fruit and cheese tray, and flowers (with plans to sleep in late and enjoy breakfast in bed!):
Fort Worth has “Restaurant Week” every year – some restaurants actually spread it out over a couple of weeks – and it happens to fall right around the time of our anniversary, so we will able to get a couple of really nice meals at a very reasonable price.
We’ll be eating at a really nice restaurant on Friday night:
And again on Saturday night:
In the heat of the afternoon, we plan on hitting the Movie Tavern for a couple of movies – we’re definitely gonna see The Bourne Legacy and Expendables 2, but we may try and catch another one if we have time:
If we’re not too tired, we might even do a little shopping:
We promised the girls that we won’t come home with another sibling waiting to hatch.
(We finally figured out how that happens -)
See ya’ll on Monday (or Tuesday….) ♥♥♥
Have fun! My wife and I were going to do dinner for our anniversary, but we live in the boondocks, and it’s a 2-hour drive to the nearest nice restaurant. After 23 years, we decided 4 hours of driving wasn’t worth the trouble. I’ll have to do something nice for our 25th.

We live about 1-2 miles from downtown, so it’s no big deal for us (the hotel is literally right up the street….).
Definitely do something special for your 25th, though – we took our oldest up to NY to drop her off at college, then went to Niagara Falls for a couple of days. It was wonderful!

Oh, it was so good – the testosterone started dripping off the screen from the opening moments and didn’t stop until the credits rolled.
Your hubby will love it!
