Blasts from the Past

Many times I find myself starting a blog post, and as I get further into it, it takes on a life of its own and becomes something quite different from what I had originally planned….
….This is one of those posts.
.

This didn't start out to be a post about propaganda.....

The thing I love about the Internet is that you can just start digging and you never know what you may find. It’s kind of like going to the Public Library and getting lost in the stacks on a rainy afternoon – one thing leads to another, which leads to another, which leads to another, and pretty soon you’re in a completely different part of the building, reading about something that you never realized you were interested in.

For an information junkie like me, the Internet is my “drug” of choice – I can’t get enough of it. Anyway, I thought I’d share some of what I found while I was out spelunking among the pixels and the terrabytes this weekend….

Why Health “Insurance” Costs So Much…..

Remy Munasifi hilariously explains the whole problem that people have with Obamacare’s “One Size Fits All” requirement for health insurance:

I really wish someone could explain how INSURANCE works to all of these Democrats; it’s obvious they don’t understand the concept of insurance being a way to manage RISK, not a way to pay for maintenance costs….

Growing up, this was always one of my favorite songs – now whenever I hear it, I think about summertime when I was a kid:

Men……

.
So a couple of weeks ago, Paul wasn’t feeling well – still – and his doctor wanted him to get some bloodwork done. Why, I still haven’t figured out, but he’s the doctor, so I figure he must have a good reason.

Happy Birthday to my BFF

Who let the (old) broads out?

The first day of high school (Fall, 1974), the girl sitting in the desk in front of me in my first class (German II, with Herr Suhr) turned around and said, “Hi! I’m Becky.”

It’s a tax! No, it’s a mandate!

.
Just a quick Obamacare update: apparently today the lawyer who is arguing for Obamacare is arguing that it is a tax; tomorrow he will be arguing that it ISN’T a tax:

U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli used the phrase “tax penalty” multiple times to describe the individual mandate’s backstop. He portrayed the fee as a penalty by design, but one that functions as a tax because it’s collected through the tax code.

“General Verrilli, today you are arguing that the penalty is not a tax. Tomorrow you are going to be back and you will be arguing that the penalty is a tax,” said Justice Samuel Alito, in one of the few laugh lines throughout the 90 minutes of argument Monday.

Mr. President, If I Had a Son….

.
“If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” Obama said Friday.
.

.
Oops. Silly me – that isn’t a picture of Trayvon Martin, that’s a picture of Matthew Bent.

I daresay, Mr. President, that if you did have a son he might just as easily look like young Mr. Bent.  According to his mother, Mr. Bent was a good kid – he mowed neighbors’ lawns, volunteered with yard sales at church, did his homework and was an avid basketball player.

Happy WDSD!

Our little munchkin, Rebecca

(That stands for World Down Syndrome Day)

I’m not usually big on “Awareness” Days, but I make an exception for this one, because it celebrates some very special people. The date that was picked (3/21) is no accident – on this date, we celebrate those wonderful people who have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. Life in a family with a DS member is a whirlwind adventure!

Somebody call the Waaaaaah-mbulance….

.
Poor little Melissa Hortonshe took to the opinion pages of the Washington Post to let the world know that she borrowed money to pay for college, and now she doesn’t want to have to pay it back.  Not only is she whining about that, but she has the audacity to insinuate that her parents are liars who are dumber than a sack of rocks.
