Whenever I hear sleigh bells, it always makes me think about Christmas. There are lots of Christmas songs with a “bell” theme to them, so I thought I’d group some of them together in a post.
We’ll start off with the Ukrainian carol “Shchedryk” – better known to you and me as “Carol of the Bells” – this version is performed by The Robert Shaw Chorale (I liked this video clip):
.
.
Here’s one I bet you weren’t expecting: “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from “The Nutcracker” ballet – hey, it’s got bells! As an added bonus, this clip is from the Disney classic “Fantasia” (which has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, I just liked watching it):
.
.
The classic “Sleigh Ride”, as only Arthur Fiedler’s Boston Pops can do it:
.
.
And it wouldn’t be a post about bells without the ever-popular “Jingle Bells”. This is one of my all-time favorite versions of this song – a peppy tune performed by Barry Manilow backed up by a lovely group of ladies (the group Expose) reminiscent of the Andrews sisters:
.
.
Wasn’t that fun? I hope these tunes got you in the holiday spirit!

Eldest granddaughter’s all-district elementary choir performed last night with the Our Town Wind Symphony. One of the symphony’s selections was “Sleigh Ride”. Their poor little percussionists were busier than any busy person you can think of.
This is a really fun number to see performed.

I bet they had fun! It’s not often that the percussion section gets to strut their stuff –

Love them, except Barry. For some reason I just can’t get him.
But the Fantasia clip brought back memories!

I’m sorry – if you’re not a Fanilow, we simply cannot be friends any longer…..

I’ve been in love with the man’s work since “Mandy” came out – I can’t quit him….

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I really meant this rendition, you know. Not his whole works. But sadly, I’m not a fan, just indifferent 😉
