I heard it tonight at the end of the show. Googled ‘don’t be cruel magic city’ expecting no chance. Got your post. Thanks. Probably have to find the album now.

Glad you found me! I was shocked that this arrangement was done in 1975 – I figured it was a fairly new release.
I guess it didn’t play on any of the (teeny-bopper) radio stations I was listening to at the time……

Pingback: The Music of Magic City – “Drowning on Dry Land” | Koch's Tour
I just started watching Magic City . As you know, during the funeral scene in episode 4 this haunting melody came on which I did not immediately recognize as “Don’t be Cruel”.. I have no memory of having heard Billy Swans version before… Let alone from 1975.. Thanks for posting the song … Peace, Rob from New Mexico

Wow…Guess I’m late to the party. Just started watching the 1st season of Magic City and heard this song. Was blown away to find out it was from 1975!!! Great arrangement of it. I always liked Cheap Trick’s version better than Elvis’s (and I’m a big Elvis guy so thats saying something!) but I think I have a new favorite.

It just took me longer to find this, but I’m glad I did. I watched Magic City ~ episode #4 the first time it was on. WOW the end of the show was a blow away with this song. I rewound many times looking through the credits but never saw the credit to this song. I even wrote to the shows distributor in search of this version and origin of Don’t Be Cruel, never got an answer. Just happen to be listening to Cheap Trick and their version brought it all back. This time Google came through with this post about
