And They Wonder Why We Don’t Trust Them…..

.

.
A couple of interesting things have happened in the news lately that are completely unrelated, but for one thing: they make it glaringly obvious – to anyone who is willing to pay attention – that the people in whom the American people place their trust aren’t worthy of that trust.

In the recent Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman story, it is becoming increasingly clear that the very journalists who ask us to trust them when they are “reporting” the news are guilty of manipulating their stories to fit a narrative.

And when “citizen journalists” take the time to do the investigating that these so-called reporters should have been doing in the first place, they are accused of demanding their pound of flesh:

“The network is very sensitive about the whole Al Sharpton/MSNBC issue, so when the right-wing bloggers started hammering, they needed to throw them fresh meat,” said the station source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the controversy.

I’ve got news for this “station source” – the reason the right-wing blogs kept pounding away at this is because those of us who had been following the story had actually taken the time to READ THE POLICE REPORT, and it was pretty apparent from the beginning that there was a REASON that Mr. Zimmerman had been let go.
.

The pictures the media originally published

.
If anyone needed “fresh meat”, it was the journalists and the race-baiting hustlers who were eager to turn this into the public lynching of a decent human being, the facts be damned.

You want to know why we don’t trust you? It’s because you play fast and loose with the facts. And you do it often enough that you have lost all credibility with people who care about things like “Truth” and “Justice”.

After weeks and weeks of screaming at those who took the time to get the facts of this case, accusing them of being racists and liars (and this has happened more times than I care to count), what do you know?

All of a sudden, our “trusted” media is finally starting to “report” that maybe this case isn’t as cut-and-dried as they wanted everyone to believe when it first broke.
.

The more current pictures of Mr. Zimmerman and Mr. Martin - which were NOT shown
(until the "right-wing blogs" demanded that the truth be told)

.
You want to know why the Mainstream Media is losing market share?

It’s because their “product” isn’t reliable.

An uncomfortable truism of the free market is that there are ALWAYS other choices. And consumers tend to go with the “brands” that they know they can trust. That’s just as true for laundry detergent as it is for news sources.

Once a company has lost the trust and respect of their customers, they almost never recover, and eventually most of them have to close their doors.

Which brings me to a totally different story that is currently in the news which also shows why people are increasingly unwilling to trust the media and/or those at the highest levels of government.
.

.
You see, there is currently an investigation going on concerning this administration’s apparent willingness to not only break the law in order to manufacture a crisis where none existed before, but to then turn a blind eye when American citizens demanded that the truth be told and that justice be done.

When this administration was caught red-handed in an active cover-up, they immediately went into the same spiel that most 5-year-olds try when they are caught doing something they shouldn’t.

It is unseemly.
It is wrong.

And for a story that could put a reporter’s name in the history books, there seems to be precious little interest in doing the very thing that most of them entered the journalism field to do – I mean, don’t all journalism students dream of being the one to break the “Big Story” that will topple a corrupt administration?

The “Fast and Furious” story has it all – including murders on both sides of the US-Mexican border – and we’ve heard practically NOTHING about it on the nightly news.

As those of us on those nasty right-wing blogs have been saying for the past year or more, “Watergate didn’t have a body count.”
.

.
People in the very department that is responsible for seeing justice done have been quietly re-assigned or fired as a result of their involvement in this massive government cover-up, and we have heard nothing from the press.

NOTHING.

Worse than that, though, is the blatant disregard for the law that officials at the highest levels of the Department of Justice have shown.

The very people who should be concerned the most about making sure that the law is scrupulously upheld are the very people who are either protecting those who broke the law, or who are guilty of breaking the law themselves.
.

.
And just this week we find out that one of the highest-ranking people in the DOJ is resigning, purportedly because he didn’t “tell the whole truth”.

Bullshit.

The man LIED. And it wasn’t a little white lie, it was a whole bunch of whoppers. Even when he was proven beyond a reasonable doubt to be lying, he wouldn’t admit that he was lying, but that he “didn’t have all of the facts”.

Uh-huh.

U.S. Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich plans to resign his position soon,  as two different scandals rage on in which he has provided allegedly  misleading information to Congress.

The DOJ official is the same Holder deputy who falsely told Congress that  neither the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives nor any part of  the Department of Justice ever allowed illicit firearms to “walk” across the  U.S.-Mexico border — even as contrary facts emerged from the investigation into  Operation Fast and Furious.

The real kicker, though, is that this smarmy weasel will be leaving his post at the DOJ to take a job at the University of Baltimore.

As a Dean.

Of the Law School.

Let that sink in for a moment, would you? A University is actually hiring an admitted PERJURER – a man who lied not only to Congress, but to the American people – to be the head of an institution that trains young, impressionable students to become PRACTICING lawyers.
.

.
And officials at the University are THRILLED to have him:

“….it’s important to have leadership with integrity and vision,” said Robert Bogomolny, the university’s president. “Ron Weich embodies those qualities. I look forward to working with him, and I know our students, faculty, staff and alumni will be energized by his arrival.”

The students at this Law School will go on to practice law for 40-50 YEARS; some of them will probably go on to become Judges. Regardless, the University of Baltimore appears to have no problem whatsoever having a perjurer for their students to look to as a role model.

And they wonder why we don’t trust them.

I’m beginning to think that Shakespeare had it right….

  5. Teresa… I believe it was confirmed that that second pic of Trayvon was a different Trayvon. It was like a day or two later. Great post, though.

    • I wasn’t sure about that, but I thought a couple of days later they went back and confirmed that it was, indeed, him. (Honestly, how many “Trayvon Martin”s can be out there?)

I’ll recheck and update the picture if necessary – thanks for the heads-up!

Well done. The 4th estate, Journalism, has let us down and I feel it started when more ‘journalist’ got degrees in political science vs. journalism. A structured study/training in journalism always includes ethics and it is clear many of our current MSM pundits skipped those classes. I had a blog post similar to yours but now quite as detailed.
