Adventures in Gardening

.
Our future son-in-law is visiting from England for the next couple of weeks. (I lovingly refer to him as “The Boy” in my blog posts – it’s a term of endearment; he is the nicest young man!)

He’s such a sweetie – Tuesday morning, he dragged Sarah outside to finish up some gardening that we had started over the weekend.

The two of them were so excited, because they thought they had hit the motherlode of onions.
.
.
They brought them inside, washed them off, and proudly showed them to me.

They were crestfallen when I told them they were daffodil bulbs…..
.
.
(Happily, though, they got transplanted – woo-hoo!)

    • I felt SO bad! They were just so cute when they brought them indoors.

Of course, I hear that even deer won’t eat daffodil bulbs (not that we have to worry about that this close to downtown), and we’ve never lost any to squirrels (that I know of). They were planning on cooking them, so I had to put the kibosh on that idea real quick!

In all fairness, the only way that I knew what they were is because I am the one who planted them a few years ago – they DO look an awful lot like small/medium onions…. 😛

Wow! Love gardening and I had tod to give it up at this age. However, not mentally and for about three years now we have had Juan on a regular basis. Before all of our rain we are allegedly out of the drought. All of our perennials are ahead of schedule but that makes the yard beautiful with the addition of some starter salvia and marigolds.

    • I haven’t been able to do any gardening for a couple of years now, because of the Myasthenia. We never realized just how much work I did out there until it wasn’t being done any more!

I think we’re going to have to look into hiring a service to come out and make everything look nice again. The nice thing when I was doing it was that I could “experiment” until I got things the way that I wanted them – we don’t have THAT kind of money for someone else to do it….. 😛
