In the Blink of an Eye

.
It was 25 years ago today that our lives changed in the space of an instant.  One second we were a couple, and the next we were a family.  It still never ceases to amaze me how seamlessly that transition occurred, and how it felt like things had always been that way.

She’s the one we made all of our mistakes on, the one who blazed the trail for her sisters, and the one who will be threatening to ship us off to the retirement home when we start posting embarassing pictures of her on the Internet (yes, my bags are already packed…)

The nicest thing about having a daughter is that when they grow up, your relationship changes into something really special – your daughter becomes your friend.

Happy birthday, Rachel! (And I’m really sorry about that time you fell off of the bed when we weren’t looking…..)

  1. Holy cow! I thought that was Angelina Jolie in that last pic.

Happy birthday to Rachel, and may she have many more!!

(Just FYI, that falling-off-the-bed thing happened to Eldest, too. It must be genetic, or something… ;) )

    • Yeah – I thought Paul was still watching her from the bathroom door, so I turned around to do something; he didn’t see me turn around, so he popped back into the bathroom.

We heard a “bang”, then a cry, then I turned around (I was sitting on the bed), and Paul ran out of the bathroom; neither one of us realized that she could roll yet!

We kept expecting CPS to show up at the door to take her away…..

  2. My friend Jay is going to be at the Iowa State-Texas A&M game today; it’s airing on ABC. I told him that I was ABSOLUTELY SURE that Rachel would want him to moon the camera for her birthday…… :P

  3. Mom says:

A VERY SPECIAL PERSON WHOM I LOVE VERY DEARLY – ALONG WITH HER SISTERS AND HER COUSIN MICHAEL. NOTHING LIKE GRANDCHILDREN.

LOVE TO YOU AND PAUL – YOU DID “GREAT”.

  4. Yes, you did and we have always been impressed with Paul as husband and father, as well as Greg’s way with his sons. Have a great day, Rachel! Love to all. IMO
